The end is in sight, spring is nipping at the heels of another long winter, and the anticipation of warmer days ahead is starting to lift winters fog from our memory. Since some water pipes are located either outside or in unheated areas where the temperature may occasionally drop below the freezing point of water, any water in the pipework may potentially freeze. When water freezes, it expands due to negative thermal expansion, and this expansion can cause failure of a pipe system in a number of ways. Condensation control and energy savings are also important reasons to think about insulating those pipes now. Frost King’s Pre-Slit Tubular Foam Pipe Insulation is quick and easy to install and comes in several sizes for a good snug fit for 3/8-In. to 1-1/4-In. pipes. 6-Ft. in length and R-value 2.1 makes this the perfect product to help you save money, energy, and your pipes this winter!

Do you hate those ugly sprouts that form on your potatoes after just a couple of weeks? It turns out an apple a day might keep those sprouts away and also help the potatoes last longer. P
Designer Jihyun Ryou says that the ethlylene gas produced by apples prevents potatoes from sprouting. Since apples also cause other fruits and vegetables to ripen too quickly, storing the apples away from them is good for your other produce too. Ryou’s other food storage tips on MoCo Loco are helpful too, such as storing root vegetables vertically.P
The apples and potatoes storage tip has also been proven by America’s Test Kitchen. In their experiment, potatoes stored with an apple stayed firm and sprout-free even after eight weeks, compared to potatoes stored without an apple; they turned out “largely soft, shriveled, and sad looking.” So add an apple and save your potatoes.
